Well that's what I did last Saturday night.
Birthdays provide you with something that nobody else has for just one day of the year, it is all yours. So as if my big day was not special enough having come through all of my health issues, my family decided to throw me a big fancy dress party! It was in honour of my 30th and 31st birthday. We were celebrating both in one as I cannot remember my 30th because of something called retrograde amnesia. Although I still like to believe I am in my twenties.
Lots of family members and friends came dressed as someone who they share their birthday with for fun and good talking points. It was held at the school where my sister works, which is just outside my hometown Leicester. I went dressed as Welsh womanising wizard, Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs, which went down well with my better half Amy, who in turn came as Home Alone star Caulkin. Lots of family members and friends attended the bash including my girlfriend's family who travelled all the way up to the East Midlands from Poole on the south coast.
My one hope is that I can store these memories and save them away in my sieve of a brain. So they won't slip away like many of my memories of the last few months. Not being able to rely on my own memory is really tough but hopefully by doing this blog more and more things will start to stick.
For one night I tried to forget all about my injuries, restrictions and everything that has happened to me recently even if only for a night. And what a brilliant night it was! The best in a long time.
After the year my family and I have been through with myself and my granddad being ill, it was just nice to get everyone together and share a few laughs, drinks and smiles and put all of the troubles of our crappy year behind us, even if just for a few hours, it all counted.
